Columbia County Chamber accepting applications for young professional mentoring programs

Robbie King has a passion for mentoring the next generation of local business leaders.

King, the founder of Lead Augusta, helps to guide young professionals participating in Young Men on the Move, a 10-month program offered by the Columbia County Chamber of Commerce. The program, which is designed for men between the ages of 23 and 30, teaches valuable personal and professional skills, such as networking.

“It demonstrates the importance of mentoring, networking, building relationships, and giving back to the community,” he said. “Often, these relationships are created and last for entire careers and lifetimes.”

The county also offers a similar program, Young Women on the Way, for female business professionals. Both programs are currently accepting applications for the Class of 2023, and the deadlines have been extended to Friday, Jan. 6. Participants, who are selected through an application process, must commit to attending monthly luncheons. They’re also required to get permission from their employer and pay the $425 tuition.

“The Columbia County Chamber’s Young Men and Young Women programs are probably the two most important ones we offer,” said its President and CEO, Russell Lahodny. “These young professionals get paired with mentors who teach them and walk with them through their journey from valued employees and entrepreneurs to future leaders in the workplace, the Chamber, and the community.”

“It is one of the true win-win opportunities for these young professionals,” King said.
