Local chocolatier opens second CSRA location

For years, Bebette Smith’s customers asked her when she planned to open a second location in Aiken, but she has finally made their wish come true.

Last Friday, Smith, owner of La Bonbonniere located at 231 Furys Ferry Road, Suite 206B in Furys Ferry Station in Augusta, opened a new shop across the street from the Aiken County Courthouse at 227 Chesterfield St. South. She will celebrate its grand opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony hosted by the Aiken County Chamber of Commerce on Monday, March 20 at 4 p.m.

La Bonbonniere makes and sells authentic hand-made Belgian chocolates in a variety of flavors, including peanut butter, rum raisin, Irish cream, and caramel crunch. Smith said all the chocolates for both shops are made in Augusta, which is why that location is twice the size of the one in Aiken.

“I will have more foot traffic in Aiken than I have here,” she said. “People walk around in Aiken.”

Smith, who was born and raised in Belgium, will celebrate her Augusta location’s 18th anniversary in June. A friend of hers owns La Parisienne French Restaurant & Bakery next door and told her about the vacant space.

“People who have lunch there can walk next door and have chocolate for dessert,” she said. “I expect it to be successful.”

The Aiken shop is open Tuesday through Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, visit labonbonniereaugusta.com/ or call 706-868-8120.
