2 Questions with the Dean: The Real World

If you or your high school senior is considering a business degree—it’s important that modern-day trends and employment opportunities are at the forefront. In today’s 2 Questions with the Dean—we discuss the real world.

ABD: Explain how you look at market-driven concentrations at the Hull College of Business?

HULL: It aligns with our Bachelor of Business Administration degree. We have 13 market-driven concentrations. What this allows us to do is be very flexible and adaptable in terms of what the marketplace needs. It creates specific coursework to form those concentrations that allows our students to be up to date and current with the latest business trends.

So that becomes a very employable and marketable skill, and these are areas where businesses need people with this skill set, and so we have graduates that are ready to hit the ground running.

ABD: Have you noticed any trends in the last year or so as to what is attracting students to particular concentrations of studies?

HULL: For instance, in the marketing field, we have a concentration in digital marketing that has been very attractive to recruiting students. It’s also very attractive for employers that are looking to add that skill set as part of their overall business operations.

The other is that, as Augusta University is a health sciences Tech University, we have a concentration in healthcare management, and that is attracting a lot of students, one of to comes to Augusta University for that concentration.

It also attracts students that are at Augusta University that might have started in some other field and decided that they still want to be in the healthcare field, but maybe they don’t want to be a doctor. And so, it’s attracted students that way as well.

It is sort of a no-brainer path to get a good job in Augusta with what Augusta has to offer. So, I do think that a lot of students see that this is a concentration that will lend itself to a job, and if I’m wanting to stay in the local area that there will be healthcare management jobs in this area.
