Of all the locations you would expect to find a dive shop, Harlem is probably not one of them. But Rose Bennett and her late husband, Bob, opened Bubbles or Not in the small Georgia town in June 2016. Located off Gordon Highway at 211 North Louisville St., Bubbles or Not offers a variety of scuba classes for both beginners and advanced divers. The business also offers the Open Water Diver certification class, which prepares students to dive anywhere in the world. Training typically begins in the pool at Bennett’s

Faith Friday: Twin beauty duo says God rewards their faith doubly

They answer to Jocelyn or Jasmyn, depending on which one you’re attempting to talk to. They’ve become accustomed to answering “Hey, Twin!” Even their husbands’ names, Bryan and Ryan, rhyme, though they’re not brothers. However, the title Jasmyn Wright and Jocelyn Budgett are most proud of and prefer is “business owner.” It’s a blessing they say came only from God, with a little inspiration from some faithful clients early in their business. “We actually started in college,” said Jasmyn. “Jocelyn was already taking clients and I had started playing in

Simon Says: Numbers don’t always match the words spoken about them

I am sometimes a little skeptical of some numbers bandied around by politicians and economic development folks, but I do understand they are cheerleaders and need to present information in the best light. So, it was with interest that I read in Augusta Business Daily last week that Pat Wilson, Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Economic Development, said Georgia had added 35,000 jobs in the Fiscal Year 2022. The state fiscal year began in July 2021. I looked up the job numbers on the Federal Reserve Economic Data website

CASA Home Show draws smaller crowds, better leads than expected

The turnout at the CASA Home Show didn’t quite meet Blane Bailey’s expectations, but he still calls it a successful event. Bailey had expected 8,000 to 10,000 people at the show, which was held Saturday and Sunday at the Columbia County Exhibition Center in Grovetown. But the actual numbers were closer to 5,000, which he said was more than the number who attended the Augusta Home and Garden Show in February in downtown Augusta. More than 80 vendors, including Tub Doctor, Palmetto Pools and Mosquito Squad, had booths at the

Urban and Rural Roost is creating a new way to work in the CSRA where entrepreneurs, remote workers, startup founders, and podcast hosts can gather for interaction and stimulate their creative juices. There’s a reason for the business name Urban and Rural Roost and it’s another bit of “out of the box” thinking by founder, Gary Finnan. “Aiken merges the urban and rural beautifully,” he said. “The area where we are, 703 Richland Avenue East, might be considered urban blight, but I believe this area has great potential and will

Scheer, co-owner of the well-known restaurant located just blocks from the Augusta National Golf Club, said he was very pleased with the turnout for the first full tournament in three years. The crowds were so large that customers had to wait
