A local creative arts marketing company is allowing dance teams to compete for a top prize of $50,000 at the El3vate Convention & Dance Crew Competition at the Miller Theater this summer.
Fusic365, which will host the competition from June 30 through July 2, provides an online marketing platform for artists to showcase their talents to directors, producers, and managers.
“We are thrilled to bring together amazing artists and performers to enjoy each other’s talents at our very first EL3VATE Convention and Dance Crew Competition,” said Brodrick Mungo, Fusic 365’s founder, and CEO. “I can’t wait to see the awareness this event will bring to the performing arts in our area and the opportunity for dancers to perform alongside professional artists.”
Teams of four to eight dancers nationwide have until May 21 to register and submit 1 ½ to 2 ½-minute videos showing off their best dance moves. Online voting will be held May 23-28, and all finalists will be notified on May 29.
The competition is open to dancers 16 and older, but to participate in the convention, they must be at least 10 years old.
The event will include workshops and classes taught by professional dancers and native Augustans, such as Kathryn McCormick, who competed on the TV show “So You Think You Can Dance, and Christopher Wilson, a performer with the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in New York.
In addition to the winning, four other teams will earn prizes ranging from $3,000 to $25,000.
