Each morning before the workday begins, Paul Myers, owner of Myers House Buyers, and his team of five, each recite three things for which they are thankful. The Augusta native says it is the one time of day he knows his team is completely focused on gratefulness and God’s word.
When buying distressed homes, one has to see the good that could come from something seemingly bad. Giving thanks daily, he says, helps keep things in proper perspective.
“That’s helped us immensely,” Myers said. “Having a ‘gratitude’ time each morning has helped us practice God’s encouragement in 1 Thessalonians 5:16, which says, “to give thanks in all circumstances.”

That takes faith.
The 37-year-old husband and father began his real estate journey at the age of 20 when he bought his first house while still in college. Since then, as in life, he’s had real-world experiences that have tested his entrepreneurial journey.
When he started two years ago from scratch, he saw no profit in the first five months. All he had was trust in God. Turns out, that was all he needed for things to turn around.
“Our faith helped us weather the storm until we could start closing deals and making income,” he recalls. “We trust in God’s promise of Deuteronomy 8:18, that He will ultimately give us the ability to produce wealth and it’s our responsibility to trust Him for this. He will provide in ways that we cannot see. Because God’s ways and thoughts are not our ways and thoughts, there is an inherent inability to see how He’s going to work to provide.”
Provision looks like this for the Augusta native: Last year, he says, gross revenue for Myers House Buyers was $615,000, and this year the company is on pace to achieve $960,000. He credits every revenue dollar to faith because “in and of ourselves, we couldn’t achieve this revenue.”
In addition to a favorable financial future for his family, he says, he also wants to leave a community-wide legacy that reflects the so-called Golden Rule of doing unto others as you would have them do unto you.
“I want it to be said we are people of our word and treat others the way we’d want to be treated,” Myers explained.
