Real Talk Real Estate: Re-Invest In Your Home

If you are a homeowner, your home is most likely your biggest and most valuable asset. Just like you have to spend time nurturing personal relationships with friends and loved ones, your home needs constant care and love as well. Here are a few helpful things to do, that will definitely keep things up to date and maybe even add monetary value to your biggest investment.

  • First off, finish up minor repairs around your house. These things can actually make a difference in the value of your home. Take some time to finish your to-do list of annoying little tasks that you keep putting off. One thing I have been working on, is painting all the interior trim at my house. I know that when I show a home, people rarely have the trim painted. You will be amazed by how much cleaner and maintained a home with fresh trim looks and feels. I feel like if a house had a love language it would be acts of service!
  • Another easy thing you can do is customize your light fixtures. There are so many great options available online and locally that can instantaneously modernize a space. Light fixtures are an easy home project that a novice can master with a YouTube tutorial. If you are intimidated by taking on this task, an electrician or handyman can do it for a minimal expense of about $150. Stay away from anything that is a track light or out of character for your home style or the current trends. You can also reduce the value of your home with a poor lighting choice so make sure you have really looked at some timeless and attractive options before you commit!
  • One last recommendation I have is for your garage! (See proud photo above)! YES, you should organize and clean it out, but also a fresh coat of paint on the walls and some epoxy paint treatment on the concrete will absolutely add value to your home. It really is satisfying once it is completed and an easy improvement that most anyone can do!

I know that these are not the glamorous moments of home ownership, but I am sure that the end results are most certainly good for reaching your properties potential.
