Local restaurateur says government leaders forcing closure of profitable restaurant

Gary Gibson says the combination of a planned retirement by a Gary’s Hamburgers store manager and what he calls the never-ending federal unemployment subsidies and stimulus checks has forced his hand. “We cannot keep enough employees on staff to adequately serve our customers.” Gary Gibson adds: “The current administration appears to be coercing small business owners into paying much, much higher wages than we can afford. When I opened my first Gary’s Hamburgers restaurant in 1984 in North Augusta, I never thought, in a million years, that the federal government

A taste of Europe in the CSRA

That was fine. The Giustos are wine people anyway, so they named their rather intimate culinary retreat “Solo Vino” which in Italian means “Only Wine.” It’s a sophisticated sounding

Shemp and Petey’s restaurant on Washington Road opened in the summer and didn’t make it to fall—closing on August 28th. Area Restaurants & Coffee Shops Cut Hours, Raise Prices, Scramble For Staff

Gary Gibson is getting ready to raise prices again. He has no other option. He’s already thin on labor expenses. “My food costs are up 30%,” said Gibson, who owns the Gary’s Hamburger Restaurants in North Augusta, West Augusta, Martinez and Evans. There are times his restaurants may be out of catfish or other products. “This is so against the way I’ve run restaurants for 38 years. I have a hard time telling customers we can’t get something”, added Gibson from his flagship restaurant on Georgia Avenue in North Augusta.
