Faith Friday: The impact of loneliness

If you are like me, you have had times when you have felt like you are on the outside looking in. Times when you have felt distant and disconnected from others. Evidently, these feelings are not unusual. In fact, they are widespread throughout our country. Just a few days ago, Vivek Murphy, the United States Surgeon General, said that Americans are in an “underappreciated public health crisis.” He took the action of issuing a public advisory. Here is a summary of the major takeaways: Humans are wired for social connection,

Faith Friday: Unlike any other

During Masters coverage in 1986, CBS golf sportscaster Jim Nantz coined the phrase, “It’s a tradition unlike any other.” I would like to modify that sentence and tell you about a museum “unlike any other.” It’s the Museum of the Bible in Washington, DC. Since there is a daily non-stop flight from Augusta to D.C. and with many of us planning summer travel, I wanted to be sure you are aware of this incredible place. Your initial response might be “Museums are a collection of old stuff. They are often

Faith Friday: Signs of Faith

One thing I noticed very quickly after moving to the CSRA in 2006, was the large number of churches in our area. Some of them have grabbed my attention with clever messages on their outdoor signs as I’ve driven by. Perhaps, they have gotten your attention as well. I did a quick internet search and grabbed some samples of the kind of messages I’m talking about: Seven Days without prayer makes one weak Don’t make me come down there- God Jesus loves you and your tattoos Wanted: Singers inchoir within

Faith Friday: Big George Foreman

When you think of larger-than-life characters portrayed in movies, you might think of fictitious characters like King Kong or perhaps one of the prehistoric dinosaurs from the Jurassic Park movie franchise. There are also some characters whose very physical presence looms large. A soon-to-be-released movie will focus on one of them. It’s the true story of former heavyweight boxing champion, George Foreman. He is certainly best known for his boxing. Against incredible odds, he won the gold medal for the USA in the 1968 Olympics at the age of 19

Faith Friday: Easter is almost here

Two thoughts come to my mind almost simultaneously when I think of Easter. I’ve had the privilege of visiting Israel. To walk where Jesus walked. To see many of the places with my own eyes that the Bible talks about. To be immersed in history and experience firsthand cities and sites that bring the Bible to life. When you’re there it quickly becomes apparent that the stories in the Bible are not just stories. They are about real flesh and blood people with hopes, fears, dreams, and challenges living life

Faith Friday: The Jesus Revolution

People watch movies for several different reasons. Some are looking for an escape from the “real world” for a couple of hours. Others anticipate seeing the latest work from a favorite actor. Still, others have heard about a story or read a book and want to see it come to life on the big screen. The movie Jesus Revolution opened in theaters a few weeks ago. It vividly tells the story of a powerful spiritual movement that took place in the early 70’s in Southern California. The main characters are
