New CSRA restaurant serves up freshly made Mexican favorites

Rosy Ortiz came to Aiken from Veracruz, Mexico 23 years ago. During that time, she worked for several restaurants, but last week, she and her business partner, Juanita Brito, opened their own place, Taqueria El Charrito. Mexican food is second only to Chinese cuisine in popularity. Wings restaurant to replace popular CSRA sub shop

With football season just around the corner, a national restaurant chain is hoping to score a touchdown by opening a new CSRA location. Atlanta-based, Touchdown Wings plans to open a new location at 3328 Wrightsboro Road, next door to Walmart in Augusta, replacing Baldinos Giant Jersey Subs, which closed last month. The restaurant is scheduled to open in October, according to the company’s website. Touchdown Wings currently offers 30 flavors of chicken wings, including spicy ranch, lemon pepper, teriyaki, and Cajun, as well as burgers, sandwiches, salads, and seafood. The

Greater Augusta Arts Council receives Bridge grant

The Greater Augusta Arts Council is getting a financial shot in the arm from the Georgia Council for the Arts, a division of the Georgia Department of Economic Development. GAAC received a Bridge grant, one specifically for non-profit arts organizations that have been negatively impacted by COVID-19. The local organization is one of 162 such groups to receive the funds. “These vital funds bring life into communities all across the state. Local politician launches upscale event space

Over the years, Steven Kendrick has heard from many people who wanted a nice, affordable space to hold upscale events in the CSRA, which prompted the former Richmond County Tax Commissioner and mayoral candidate to open his own event space. In Nov. 2022, Kendrick launched Central Station located at 1857 Central Ave., next door to Midtown Tavern in Augusta. Each year, the Augusta GreenJackets partner with a local non-profit organization to collect school supplies for less fortunate students throughout the CSRA.
