Family issues and business obstacles lead to closing

Things were upbeat and happy in May 2022 when ABD’s Gary Kauffman profiled a local family living a dream of running Sarge’s Soda Shop, next to Food Lion in Grovetown. CSRA roadside café set to close

On the edge of Aiken County, almost close enough to throw a rock to the Barnwell County line, Almost There Café opened for business last fall. Owner, Dawn Redmon and her cooks served up good ole Southern fare fried chicken, mashed potatoes with gravy, cornbread, and a variety of other dishes that soon became favorites. The building at 245 White Pond Road in Williston had been a donut shop, a chicken joint, and a mercantile over the years. It wasn’t a big place, but locals seemed to love the food.

Another national retailer announces plans to close all its locations

It’s been a tough year for corporations and another major retailer has announced it won’t make it to Christmas 2023. Christmas Tree Shops is joining a growing list of companies, such as Bed Bath & Beyond and buybuy BABY, that are closing all their locations nationwide. International grocery store chain to close CSRA location this weekend

Jennifer Sparling has been a loyal Lidl shopper ever since the grocery store location opened in North Augusta in Sept. 2017. But now that the German retailer has announced it will close that location on Sunday, Sparling isn’t sure where she plans to buy coffee, bread, and other staples for her family. After years of struggling to stay afloat, two retail giants have announced plans to close all their stores nationwide, including locations in the Augusta Exchange shopping center. Bed Bath & Beyond located at 221 Robert C. Daniel Jr. Parkway and buybuy BABY located at 242 Robert C. Daniel Jr. Parkway will both close their doors permanently after Bed Bath & Beyond, the parent company of buybuy BABY, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection last month. National home goods retailer to close CSRA location

Shoppers at a CSRA retail location that specializes in home decor are about to have a bad morning. Tuesday Morning, which is located in Washington’s Corner Shopping Center at 3241 Washington Road, behind LongHorn Steakhouse in Augusta, is closing soon and offering discounts of up to 30 percent for its remaining merchandise. In February, the Dallas-based company, which currently has more than 200 locations throughout the United States, including Florida, South Carolina, Alabama, and Texas, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and has announced it’s closing all its stores nationwide.

Local chocolatier temporarily closes one of its CSRA shops

Two months ago, Bebette Smith opened her Belgian chocolate business’s second CSRA location, but she’s already been forced to close that location temporarily and throw away about 200 pounds of chocolate. Smith owns La Bonbonniere located at 231 Furys Ferry Road, Suite 206B in Augusta and 227 Chesterfield St. South in Aiken. She said her Aiken store is one of three retail units located in the same building, and the building’s owner is currently revamping the other two units. The conflict behind the closing of historic golf club restaurant

A little more than a year after opening at the Aiken Golf Club, The Legends Grille has closed its doors. There was some buzz on social media regarding the closing which attributed the shutdown to staffing shortages.
